Petrol Passes R30 a Litre for the First Time: What It Means for Your Wallet
The October fuel adjustment, effective Wednesday 7 October, added R3.33 per litre to Petrol 95 and R3.12 to Petrol 93, taking inland Petrol 95 to R30.25 a litre. That is the first time it has passed R30 in South Africa. The main driver is high global oil prices linked to the Middle East conflict, and the General Fuel Levy has now been reinstated in full, so there is no cushion left. You can’t control the pump price, but you can cut your use by keeping tyres correctly inflated, driving smoothly, removing extra weight, combining errands and joining a lift club. The table shows how the Petrol 95 inland price has moved this year.
| Month (2026) | Petrol 95 (inland, per litre) | Change from previous month |
|---|---|---|
| March | R20.30 | – |
| April | R23.36 | +R3.06 |
| May | R26.63 | +R3.27 |
| June | R28.06 | +R1.43 |
| July | R26.10 | -R1.96 |
| August | R25.58 | -R0.52 |
| September | R26.92 | +R1.34 |
| October | R30.25 | +R3.33 |
