Social grant are funds put in place to help improve the living standards of people in South African society, and who are vulnerable to poverty, and requires South African Government support.
The increase for grant for 2024 covers;
- The old age,
- War veterans,
- People living with disability
- and care dependencies.
The increase for 2024 for the above category is R90 in April 2024 and further R10 grant in October 2024.
Foster care grant will increase by R50 and child support grant by R20 in April 2024.
Care Dependancy Grant Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The applicant must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.
- The applicant and child must be resident in South Africa.
- Child must be under the age of 18 years.
- The applicant must submit a medical / assessment report confirming permanent, severe disability.
- The applicant and spouse must meet the requirements of the means test (except for foster parents.
- The care-dependent child/children must not be permanently cared for in a State Institution.
To qualify for child support grant, the following criteria must be met:
- The primary care giver must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.
- Both the applicant and the child must reside in South Africa.
- The applicant must be the primary care giver of the child/ children concerned.
- The child/children must been born after 31 December 1993.
- The applicant and spouse must meet the requirements of the means test.
- Child can not apply for more than six non biological children.
- Child can not be cared for in state institution.
All grants applicants must meet all requirements based on their categories as stipulate in the SASSA rules and policies.
